Ordering Military Records
VA will require an original or certified copy of the veteran’s
military records, specifically a very important discharge paper
called a DD-214 or separation papers, as proof of the veteran’s
service record. These documents must be included in the VA claim
2. Once this document is in hand, please include the military records/discharge papers, with the application. The VA is very good about returning originals, but keep copies. It also may be a good idea to register that discharge paper with the local courthouse.
